About us

I´m Karin Träff Nordström and runs Träffström Design AB. I live in Södra Sandby outside Lund in southern Sweden with my husband. We have three grown children and three grandchildren.

The history of my crafting and of the business

When I was young I did a lot of crafting - knitting, crocheting, cross stitch and weaving. After the third child arrived in 1996, I ran out of time and space, the loom was dismantled and I stopped crafting completely. In 2018, when the first grandchildren were on their way, I started crocheting again and during the pandemic I found my way back to knitting, discovered Ravelry and Instagram and since then I have been hooked. I knit pretty much daily and have many ongoing projects at the same time.

In the spring of 2022, after I retired, I started spinning. First on a drop spindle but it was too slow for me and I switched to an e-spinner. Then I got really hooked and now I probably spin as much as I knit. I have three e-spinners, EEW Nano 2 which I believe is the smallest on the market and two from Ashford, Super Jumbo (for art yarn) and Ashford 3 which is my "workhorse".

At the beginning of 2024, I was asked to hold beginner courses in spinning on e-spinners, and that became the starting point for what today is Träffström Design. I have held courses in Skåne, mostly at home in my kitchen, and in Västernorrland (Sundsvall), where my daughter lives, as well as try-on workshops at sewing and craft festivals.

Since autumn 2023,  I have been developing 3D-printed tools for knitters and spinners, tin collaboration with my son-in-law, We start from needs I see myself or that we have received as requests from customers and Instagram followers.

The latest addition to the shop is Haunui wool, a wool I came across early in my spinning career. It is a wonderful quality of wool, soft like merino but with longer fibers and is a dream to spin. I am now a retailer for their wool, the only one in Europe, and will sell wool both in natural colours and in colours dyed by myself.

My son Anders also works in the company, with responsibility for the website, orders and other bits and pieces.
